While the basic technical principle of the contained wind turbine as used by WindTec Systems AG
is not new, it has,
however, not been used in the industry in the past due to a trend towards large, free-
running wind
generators and the structural complexity of the diffuser in such large systems.
WindTec Systems AG has solved the
problems of constructing diffusers for the targeted market of small
to mid-size systems and has so far
applied for eight patents, trade marks and use marks to protect its
technological development and
designs.
WindTec Systems AG has solved the questions of costs and construction in the production of covered windpower turbines for small and middle systems and has registered numerous of patents and samples as a protection of the developments.
The substantial increase of output power of the windpower turbine compared to a free-running propeller results mainly from the fact, tat the diffuser, which has an airfoil shape with a Flower-flap ring added to its trailing edge, does accelerate wind flowing through and around it in the area, where the rotor is located. In addition to this, there is only a very small gap between rotor and the fixed diffuser, so that wind energy cannot "escape" the rotor, hence increasing its effective area.
